Summer Plans For Your Pittsburgh Home

Spring brought us some circumstances in Pittsburgh that I don’t think any of us could imagine. Due to a pandemic, we have spent more time in our homes than ever before.

Even though businesses are opening in the Pittsburgh area, things are going to be different this summer. We may not be able to go to our favorite summer getaways and activities this year.

It has never been more apparent that our homes are our sanctuary.

Many of us were in the habit of running out of our houses from one activity to another. And now this summer may be time to slow down, relax, and enjoy your home.

Now is the perfect time to create a space you love. What can you do to make your Pittsburgh home a summer refuge for you and your family?

Expand your outdoor living space and create your backyard getaway. Here are some suggestions:

CREATE SOME SHADE

Cover your patio or some area outdoors to have shelter from the Pittsburgh weather. Summer weather can be harsh. A covered space will give you protection from the sun or the rain so you can enjoy more of the outdoors. You could install a permanent or temporary structure.

ADD A VARIETY OF SEATING

If space allows, create areas for enjoying meals and areas for relaxing. A chaise lounge (or two) provides a great spot to relax and read a good book.

BUILD AN OUTDOOR KITCHEN

An outdoor kitchen sounds extravagant, but you can create an excellent cooking space on a budget too. The DIY Network published this article on creating affordable outdoor kitchens: https://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/rooms-and-spaces/kitchen/options-for-an-affordable-outdoor-kitchen

CREATE A FIRE PIT AREA

Check with your local municipality on burning requirements first. A fire pit area is a great space for quiet evenings and smores.

UPDATE YOUR LANDSCAPING

The addition of plants and flowers makes any space feel more inviting. Add some items of interest like chimes or decorative elements. Developing your green thumb could become an outdoor activity you enjoy!

Although we will not have to spend all our time at home this summer, we will most likely be spending more time than in the past. Creating your outdoor sanctuary will allow you to relax, while spending time with family and friends in the comfort of your backyard.

Real estate sales are in full swing here in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. We have a few new restrictions and guidelines to follow for everyone’s safety. It may surprise you to know that the market is hot again. Houses that are properly prepared and properly priced are selling quickly and often with multiple offers. Interest rates remain low, which makes purchasing a home more appealing.

Now that you have spent so much time at home, you may be feeling your home does not fit your needs anymore. Or, you may have put your home-buying plans on hold due to the pandemic. Now could be the right time for you to make that move.
